A worried girlfriend’s phone call turned into a dramatic rescue mission in Thindigua, Kiambu, after her boyfriend’s number was picked up by an unfamiliar voice demanding ransom.

Detectives said the caller demanded Sh500,000 for the safe return of the woman's partner, setting in motion a trail that ended with the victim’s rescue and the arrest of five(5) suspects.

According to police, intelligence leads helped them track the movements of the suspects from Ruaka to Ithanga, where the victim was found with visible injuries and his shirt soaked in blood.

He was rescued and rushed for medical attention.

The suspects--identified by police as Sydney Ezra Achanda, John Louise Omondi, Enock Sum Cheruyot, Peter Kanini Mwangi, and Lucy Sara Muhonja--were arrested near Quickmart in Thindigua.

The operation also netted two vehicles allegedly used in the scheme: a Suzuki Swift, registration KDD 8xxD, and a Mazda Demio, registration KDP xx8Y.

Inside, detectives recovered a kitchen knife, ten assorted mobile phones, and a tablet.

“These items will form part of the evidence as we prepare the case,” a detective involved in the operation said.

Investigators revealed that by the time of the arrests, the suspects had already received Sh68,000 of the demanded ransom.

“We are treating this as a serious case, given the violence meted out to the victim,” another officer explained, noting the injuries sustained during the ordeal.

Police said the suspects are in custody undergoing processing before being arraigned.

“This arrest is a message that such criminal activities will not be tolerated,” one of the officers added, urging the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious incidents.

The case is expected in court soon as detectives finalise the necessary files to come up with watertight case.
