Ichung’wah abandons fisheries debate to attack Gachagua on House floor
Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah on Tuesday diverted debate on the Fisheries Management and Development Bill (National Assembly Bill No. 29 of 2023) to launch a pointed attack on former Deputy President and Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua.
As he moved the motion on the Bill, Mr Ichung’wah abruptly shifted focus to Mr Gachagua’s political activities in Kikuyu Constituency.
“Honourable Speaker, allow me to use this floor of the House to respond to Rigathi Gachagua. I hear he is coming to Kikuyu constituency. I want him to know that Kikuyu is part of Kenya and anybody is free to visit," he said.
The Leader of Majority stressed that while he does not fear Mr Gachagua, the community will not tolerate leaders who threaten peace.
"He has been going to Kikuyu to incite people. There was a time they burnt an NG-CDF office,” he alleged
His remarks come hours after Mr Gachagua met DCP officials from Kikuyu Constituency to plan a public rally on Saturday, April 11, at 1pm in Kikuyu township.
“I accepted their invitation to hold a public rally in Kikuyu township. The leaders have assured me they will take the necessary measures to ensure the safety of the meeting and all attendees, especially against any goons being mobilized by others,” Mr Gachagua said.
Back in Parliament, Mr Ichung’wah warned Mr Gachagua to refrain from dragging his name through political disputes.
“In the last two weeks, he wakes up, Kimani Ichung’wah. He goes to sleep, Kimani Ichung’wah. Wachana na mimi wewe,” Mr Ichung’wah added in Kiswahili.
Returning to the Fisheries Bill, Mr Ichung’wah, the sponsor of the legislation, highlighted its importance to Kenya’s fishing sector.
The Bill aims to regulate fishing operations, ensure sustainable practices, enhance revenue collection, and support fisherfolk and fishmongers across the country.
