Matungulu Deputy County Commissioner Everlyne Wekesa has urged residents to involve their family members when processing the succession of parcels of land inherited from their deceased relatives so as to avoid conflict.

She said such conflicts many a times lead to deaths in the family.

Ms Wekesa, who spoke on Sunday during the celebration of Mashujaa Day at the DCC headquarters office's ground near Kisukioni Market, said many land conflict-related deaths have been reported in the area in the recent past.

She said such premature deaths, including suicide cases, could be avoided if family members began succession processes at the local chief's office.

"Let us involve family members in succession disputes which as you all know should start at the local area chief," said Ms Wekesa.

She advised parents in the sub-County to allocate their property to their children while still alive in order to avoid succession disputes in the family.

She regretted that conflicts have occasionally led to murder among siblings.

"If parents do not do succession in the right way, we will be left trying to solve cases which would have been avoided," she added.

She also urged local communities to live in unity and harmony in order to realise faster development of the region.

The DCC asked residents to uphold good morals which are taught by religious leaders in churches and mosques.
