Suna East MP Junet Mohamed has fired back at Kalonzo Musyoka after the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party announced he had been removed as the coalition’s parliamentary leader.

In a Monday statement, Kalonzo, the coalition leader, said the decision followed a joint meeting of the Coalition Council and National Coalition Executive Council.

The letter confirmed that Junet’s appointment as Leader of the Azimio Parliamentary Group in the National Assembly had been terminated immediately, with Suba South MP Caroli Omondi set to take over.

The letter also named other senior leaders who had ceased to be members of Azimio coalition governing bodies after joining competing political coalitions or taking government positions.

They include Cabinet Secretaries; Ali Hassan Joho (Mining and Blue Economy), James Opiyo Wandayi (Energy), Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya (Cooperatives and MSMEs), and MPs Sabina Chege, Abdi Noor Omar Farah, Adan Keynan Wehliye, David Pkosing, Mishi Mboko, and Garissa Senator Abdul Haji.

Other affected members  are Isabella Wangechi Githinji, Dr Caroline Wanjiru Karugu, and Solomon Kuria.

Junet responded sharply on social media, questioning Kalonzo’s authority to enforce the reshuffle.

“Who are the MPs truly representing Azimio? Kalonzo has no authority to remove Junet Mohamed as the Minority Leader. Wait and see — this political joke will not see the day,” he said.

The clash exposes growing tension within Azimio as the opposition deals with defections, appointments, and competing ambitions for parliamentary leadership.

Junet’s defiance signals that the reshuffle may trigger wider disputes among MPs loyal to different factions within the coalition.

Azimio coalition says replacements for the affected positions will be announced soon as part of an expanded leadership structure, but Junet’s response suggests the internal battle over Azimio’s parliamentary leadership is far from over.
