KAA says Kenya's airports are not controlled by goops.
The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has rejected allegations by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna on social media that security at Kisumu International Airport (KIA) was breached during events in western Kenya over the weekend.
In a Facebook post, Mr Sifuna said flight details of his Linda Mwananchi team were leaked to state officials, and that “goons” were allowed to gather around the airport ahead of their arrival, raising concerns about the safety of passengers.
He also questioned why the itinerary appeared to have been shared by airlines, an accusation that drew immediate attention online.
Responding on Monday, KAA issued a statement saying “at no time were unauthorised individuals, groups, or organised unlawful elements present within the airport premises.”
The authority made clear that all access control measures were in place and strictly enforced according to national civil aviation security standards.
“Airport operations remained normal, secure, and uninterrupted,” KAA said, adding that there was no compromise of passenger safety, aircraft operations, or airport infrastructure.
KAA also pointed out that images circulating online were taken outside the airport perimeter and beyond its security jurisdiction, and not an indication of a breach within the airport itself.
The Airports Authority noted that the Airport Security Committee and the Border Management Committee, working with state security agencies, maintained full operational control and situational awareness throughout the period.
Mr Sifuna’s post came as he and other leaders-- including Babu Owino, Pauline Njoroge, James Orengo and Mr Godfrey Osotsi among others--were touring Kakamega County under the Linda Mwananchi mobilisation.
The tour has drawn significant attention, and in some cases, clashes at public events, further amplifying sensitivity around security claims.
KAA urged the public to rely on verified information from official sources, rather than unconfirmed social media claims, especially involving matters of national security and aviation safety.
