KNEC flags errors in registration records as concern grows over candidate eligibility ahead of national exams.

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has issued a renewed reminder to parents, guardians, and schools to urgently verify candidate registration details for the 2026 national assessments and KCSE examinations.

The Council says the current focus is correction and confirmation of existing candidate data ahead of final examination preparations.

KNEC warns that errors in names, subjects, or candidate details could lead to serious challenges during the examination period, including delays in admission to exam centres or verification failures.

“Accuracy is critical at this stage”

KNEC Chief Executive Officer Dr David Njeng’ere has previously emphasized the importance of clean data in examination management.

“Clean and accurate candidate data is critical for the smooth and efficient administration of national examinations.”

He has also warned schools against last-minute corrections, noting that such changes disrupt exam logistics and verification systems.

Schools and parents urged to act fast

KNEC says schools are expected to work closely with parents to ensure all candidate details are correctly captured and verified.

Parents are being urged to:

  • confirm learner names and registration details
  • verify subject entries with schools
  • report any discrepancies immediately.

The council says even small errors may affect candidate eligibility during examinations.

Why the warning now

With examination preparations entering their final phases, KNEC says accurate data is now central to:

  • printing exam materials
  • assigning candidates to centres
  • identity verification during exams.

The Council warns that unresolved errors at this stage could have direct consequences for learners.
