Leaders condole with MP Owen Baya on passing of his mother

Mr Baya who is the National Assembly Deputy Majority Leader shared his grief on social media.

Several leaders have expressed condolences to Kilifi North MP Owen Baya following the death of his mother, Mama Dorothy Baya Mweri, a respected matriarch of the Canon Mweri family.

Mama Dorothy, mother to Bishop Alphonce Baya of ACK Mombasa Diocese and MP Owen Baya, was remembered for her humility, faith, and unwavering devotion to family and community.

Mr Baya who is the National Assembly Deputy Majority Leader shared his grief on social media, saying: “Our mother passed on last night March 30, 2026, at 9:32pm. May God Rest Her Soul in Eternal Peace.”

Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir, who is ODM deputy party leader, said:

“Mama Dorothy was not only a devoted mother but also a pillar of strength, faith, and guidance to her family and all who knew her. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Bishop Alphonce Baya, Owen Baya, and the entire Canon Mweri family during this difficult time.”

Former Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa: "Hon. Owen Baya. Please accept my heartfelt condolences on the passing of your dear mum, the matriarch of your family. This is a profound loss, and my thoughts and prayers are with you and your loved ones during this difficult time."

Other leaders included Likoni MP Mishi Mboko who said she shared innthe pain of the family.

"Losing a mother is a deeply painful moment. We stand with you and your family in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time."
