Law Society of Kenya's Isaiah Munguti has praised the National Police Service for its dedication and sacrifices, urging Kenyans to support officers and foster positive collaboration.
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Council Representative in South Eastern region which covers Machakos, Kitui, Kajiado, Garissa and Makueni, Mr Isaiah Munguti, has praised the Police for their commendable work, adding that their sacrifices often go unnoticed.
Speaking on Monday at a police public baraza in Tala, Mr Munguti emphasized that police officers are human beings too, facing various challenges in their personal lives.
Mr Munguti urged the Police to embody the transformation from a Police Force to the National Police Service, focusing on delivering quality services to civilians.
"There are lots of good things that the Police are doing, but most of the time we only focus on the bad things," he said, appreciating the event as an opportunity to showcase their efforts.
Mr Munguti emphasized on the importance of the public working with the Police in maintaining law and order.
The baraza provided a platform for the community to engage with the Police, fostering transparency and cooperation.
Members of the judiciary and other stakeholders also attended the event.
He also commended community policing in the country saying the initiative has addressed security challenges across the country.
Mr Munguti at the same time urged Kenyans to work closely with the police for crime prevention and make neighbourhoods safer.
“The National Police Service is one of the most dedicated in the country. People should not take just one example of a bad officer and generalise that the Police Service is rotten,” said the lawyer.
He said the service ought to be recognised and supported by all Kenyans.
He said he had seen healthy collaboration between the police and civilians in the country, adding that it was important for residents to realise that police officers are mandated to serve them.
"The job of the police is to relate to the people in a positive manner and show them that they are here to perform a service just like any other government employee without violating the rule of law," he added.
Police have in the recent past been blamed for increased cases of extra-judicial killings and unexplained disappearances of persons especially the youth agitating for government accountability.
