Machakos Deputy Governor calls for strict adherence to traffic rules during Easter
Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi has advised Kenyans, especially motorists, to adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations during the Easter celebrations to ensure safe and hitch-free movement of people.
In his Easter message, Mwangangi expressed concern over the high rate of speed-related crashes being recorded across the country.
While congratulating Christians on the occasion, the Deputy Governor urged all road users to strictly observe traffic rules and regulations for a crash-free and obstruction-free festive season.
He noted that most highway accidents in the country are speed-related and called for concerted efforts by all stakeholders to prevent deaths and injuries that often characterise the festive period.
Already, 10 people have died in Gilgil after a PSV van rammed into a stalled lorry along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.
Gilgil Sub-County Police Commander Winston Mwakio confirmed the incident.
“Police officers are clearing the wreckage on the road,” Mwakio said.
Back to the Easter message, Machakos Deputy Governor Mwangangi wished all Kenyans a happy celebration. He also urged parents across the country to closely monitor their children during the April school holiday to protect them from drugs.
Mwangangi said that allowing children to mingle freely with all kinds of people and visit unknown places during the holidays could expose them to drugs, alcohol and other irresponsible behaviour.
“I urge parents across the country to monitor their children, especially during school holidays, so that they do not fall into bad company or become victims of crime,” he said.
