Fire si fire? Meru, Embu leaders endorse Kindiki to vie for president in 2032

Kindiki promises to support President William Ruto to deliver on his promises and serve Kenyans fully during his second term, should he secure victory in 2027.

A section of political leaders from Meru and Embu counties has publicly endorsed Deputy President Prof Kithure Kindiki, signaling their support for his presidential ambitions in the 2032 General Election.

Meru and Embu counties have emerged as a political and development stronghold for Deputy President Prof Kithure Kindiki, who has publicly signaled his intention to contest the 2032 presidential elections.

The endorsement comes from key political leaders, including Meru Governor Mutuma M’Ethingia, Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, MPs Mugambi Rindikiri (Buuri), John Paul Mwirigi (Igembe South), Kirima Ngusine (Imenti Central), Meru Woman Representative Karambu Kailemia, as well as Embu Deputy Governor Kinyua Mugo, Woman Rep Njoki Njeru, Senator Munyi Mundigi, and Runyenjes MP Muchangi Karemba.

Speaking during a public engagement in Timau Town, after inspecting ongoing national government development projects in Buuri Constituency, Prof Kindiki laid out his long-term political roadmap.

“I will support President Ruto to deliver on his promises and serve Kenyans fully during his second term. After that, I intend to offer myself as a candidate for the 2032 presidential elections,” he stated, while cautioning the opposition against “constant criticism without delivering tangible results.”

The backing of Meru and Embu leaders not only strengthens Kindiki’s political standing but also signals the deepening footprint of UDA in Mt Kenya ahead of future elections.

While supporting President William Ruto’s second term, these leaders have rallied behind Kindiki’s long-term vision for the presidency in 2032.

"They are telling us not to vote for Ruto for his second term but elect a new President to serve for two terms when we will be waiting. Who is better? Ruto who will serve another term or someone to serve for ten years," DP Kindiki said.

He noted that the opposition has nothing to offer and there is no developments track record for the opposition leaders when they served in the government.

"And for every one trip the opposition makes in Meru, I will make 20 trips. I will ensure they are forgotten in Meru. I am their medicine," he said.

Kindiki’s tour across Mt Kenya has been less a political parade and more of a ground assessment of billions in ongoing development projects.

The Deputy President has visited construction sites, modern markets, hospitals, stadiums, and electricity projects—translating policy into visible change.

In Meru, Sh39.5 billion has been allocated to roadworks in the region, with 736 kilometers in Meru County alone. Plans are also underway to tarmac Meru Town link roads at a cost of Sh 3.7 billion, ahead of its projected elevation to city status.

Modern markets are rising across the counties: 17 large-scale markets costing Sh 2 billion are ongoing, while 12 smaller Economic Stimulus Programme markets are being developed in towns like Timau and Kiirua.

Electricity expansion has also accelerated, with over 26,000 new connections funded by Sh 2.3 billion, and a new substation in Nyambene promising a more reliable power supply.

In health infrastructure, the Meru Level 6 Teaching and Referral Hospital is receiving a Sh 1 billion facelift, while Kinoru Stadium, completed at Sh 900 million, stands ready to host regional and international events.

Kindiki also highlighted the Timau Affordable Housing Project, which has employed over 300 youths, providing both housing solutions and job creation.

“The Affordable Housing Programme is a key driver of wealth creation and employment, particularly for our youth.

"Engaging them in productive work builds a stable and self-reliant society,” he said.

National vision: Infrastructure, empowerment and stability

Across Meru, Embu, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, and Tharaka Nithi, Kindiki’s inspection tours have underscored the government’s commitment to development delivery.

Key projects include the Sh7 billion Nithi Bridge, aimed at reducing deadly accidents, and the Gachoka–Gachuiriri road in Mbeere North, which will boost connectivity and trade.

Kindiki reiterated that leadership is grounded in service rather than empty rhetoric.

“You cannot succeed as a leader if the only thing you do is insult others or offer empty talk without solutions,” he said, drawing from his roots as a member of the Njuri Ncheke to emphasize respect, restraint, and civic duty.

As roads, markets, and infrastructure projects take shape, the Deputy President is proving that his political narrative is intertwined with tangible development--delivering both results and hope to the people of Mt Kenya.
