The Mombasa County Public Service Board has officially advertised the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital, following the exit of Dr Iqbal Khandwalla, who resigned after a brief reinstatement.
Dr Khandwalla’s tenure had been marked by a suspension over governance concerns, later followed by reinstatement, but he ultimately chose to step down, leaving a leadership vacuum at the county’s flagship referral hospital.
To stabilise operations, the board had appointed Dr Sood Mohamed as acting CEO.
The CEO role is part of a broader recruitment drive by the county to fill senior positions at the hospital, including Director of Human Resource Management.
Other positions are Deputy Chief Security Officer, Senior Accountant, Senior Support Staff, and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs).
In addition to these permanent roles, the county is offering short-term internships in civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering, architecture, quantity surveying, and construction management.
The internship positions are aimed at providing hands-on experience to degree and diploma holders across various infrastructure and governance functions.
Interested candidates are directed to complete the application process online via the Mombasa County Public Service Board website before April 1, 2026.
County officials said the recruitment drive aims to restore stability, strengthen leadership, and ensure the continued delivery of quality healthcare services to residents of Mombasa and the wider coastal region.
