MP Mule warns opposition may boycott 2027 polls over Smartmatic technology

Matungulu MP Stephen Mule has issued a warning that the opposition will not participate in an election under the current system using Smartmatic technology, especially with one of its agents allegedly serving as an advisor to President William Ruto on election matters.

Mr Mule claimed that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) was compromised.

Speaking at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Matungulu constituency, the MP said there was a need to reorganize the commission.

"I want to urge all our leaders in this country... how can we go into an election with a referee who is compromised?" he posed.

"And when we say the referee is compromised, we know what we are talking about. The referee is compromised by Mr Ruto and his regime. One Magaryan, who is the local agent of the system used by IEBC called Smartmatic, is now the advisor of President Ruto on matters of election," Mr Mule revealed.

He then went on to warn that the opposition may boycott the next election.

"As the United Opposition, very soon we are going to give direction to this country. We are not going to any election with Mr Magaryan as advisor and with Smartmatic being the technology to be used by Kenyans in 2027," said the MP.

The Smartmatic technology was used in the 2022 elections, and there were claims that it was used to rig the election.

The Supreme Court, however, dismissed such claims advanced by the late Raila Odinga's legal team as 'hot air' and threw out the case.

Mr Mule added that the opposition was not afraid of an election, saying all indications showed that Wiper Patriotic Front Leader Kalonzo Musyoka would win the next election.

He said anyone from the Kamba community who was still doubting the possibility of Mr Musyoka becoming the next President was an enemy of the community, as people from other communities had embraced his presidential bid.

Mr Mule claimed the recently built State Lodge in Kitui was constructed in preparation for Mr Musyoka's presidency and quoted the Bible to support his claims.

Mr Mule said he had heard Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wah complaining about hiccups in technology during the ruling party United Democratic Alliance (UDA) grassroots elections, adding that the same problems would occur during the general election and that Kenyans did not want anything to do with UDA.

Mr Mule also said there was a lot of confusion in the education system and urged the President and the minister in charge to sort out the issues, especially those concerning the placement of learners who completed Grade 9 into Grade 10 in Junior Secondary Schools.
