It was supposed to be a routine paint job in a Spring Valley garage.

The Mercedes-Benz GLK350d, a sleek and expensive SUV, was parked neatly inside, ready for a touch-up. But by the next morning, both the car and the night watchman had vanished.

His phone was off. Silence. Only the empty garage remained.

Detectives from DCI’s Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, Nairobi Region and Gigiri, were immediately on the trail.

Working alongside officers from Imbirikani Police Station, they began piecing together clues, following the faintest signs left behind.

Days of painstaking investigation finally bore fruit. Intelligence picked up the missing Benz cruising boldly along Mombasa Road, blending in with traffic as if daring anyone to notice.

A hot pursuit was launched. Sirens blared. Tires screeched. Vehicles swerved.

Ahead, a roadblock awaited in Imbirikani, Kajiado South Sub-County.

The Mercedes approached, the chase tightening like a noose. And then, in a heartbeat, the occupants made their move.

They abandoned the car, fleeing into the nearby thickets, disappearing toward Oltiasika and Nosilale villages, leaving the detectives staring at empty air and spinning dust.

A careful inspection of the vehicle revealed more deception. A fake front registration plate, KDR 003N, had been affixed.

The SUV matched the stolen vehicle description perfectly, but someone had tried to cover their tracks with deliberate tampering.

The luxury SUV was seized and escorted back to Nairobi.

Its story, however, was far from over. The watchman’s disappearance remains a haunting question, and the suspects, elusive in the bush, continue to evade capture.

DCI investigators say the hunt is still on. Who masterminded the theft? Where is the watchman? And what will the next trail reveal?

One thing is certain: the chase for answers has only just begun.
