Nascent Prospects empowers women leaders at Mwala International Women's Day event
Women have been challenged to stop shunning politics and use their numbers to garner more seats.
During a session in Machakos to mark the International Women's Day on Sunday, participants were informed that women remain underrepresented in political leadership.
The training supported by Nascent Prospects , a community based organisation was held at the Mwala AIC hall.
An official of the organisation, Ms Stella Kitonga, challenged women to be in the forefront in the fight against social ills in their communities.
"Women should give voice to the voiceless and also offer mentorship to the younger generation," said Ms Kitonga.
A key trainer, Ms Mary Mutuku imparted skills to the women on how to mobilise resourses for their empowerment.
She said that womens rights must be protected.
Mutuku decried the rising cases of violence on women adding that they must be protected by the law.
She added Gender based violence , prevention and response units must be strengthened and funded well by the government.
The women leaders were also trained on how to exploit the potential in the media to articulate their issues.
