No arrests in Osotsi attack despite ‘clear suspects’ as pressure mounts

  • Roundup

Siaya Governor James Orengo has questioned the lack of arrests, saying the attackers can be easily identified.

There have been no arrests in the attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, despite claims that suspects are clearly visible in images circulating online.

The Senator was attacked on Wednesday morning at Java House–West End Mall in Kisumu and later airlifted to Nairobi for specialised treatment.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations says detectives have analysed CCTV footage from the scene and are pursuing crucial leads to identify those responsible. The motive behind the attack remains unclear.

“The DCI is fully committed to getting to the bottom of this matter and will ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice,” the agency said.

Orengo raises ‘interference’ claims

Siaya Governor James Orengo has questioned the lack of arrests, saying the attackers can be easily identified.

“Despite the fact that the faces of the attackers are clearly visible… no arrests have been made,” he said.

Orengo, who visited Kisumu Central Police Station, further alleged interference from higher offices, describing the incident as “brazen daylight thuggery.”

Kalonzo claims ‘pattern’ of attacks

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka escalated the matter, linking the incident to what he termed a wider pattern of targeted political violence.

“A clear pattern has emerged… This is a deliberate campaign to block leaders from accessing Nyanza and Western regions,” he said.

Kalonzo cited previous incidents involving opposition leaders and warned that the attacks appear aimed at intimidating alternative political voices.

He also issued a 24-hour ultimatum to Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo to resign.

“Political thuggery has no place in Kenya… Silence and inaction are not an option,” he said.

More leaders speak

National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed termed the attack “dastardly” and called for swift arrests.

Mombasa Governor and ODM Deputy Party Leader Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir described it as a “senseless and cowardly attack”, urging authorities to act quickly.

“Violence and thuggery have no place in a modern society… Accountability must be swift,” Nassir said.

Investigation under pressure

With no arrests yet, growing political pressure, and claims of interference, the focus now shifts to whether investigators can turn leads into action — and quickly.
