NTSA has directed traffic police to impound vehicles from the suspended operators found operating during the suspension.
Hundreds of commuters are facing travel disruptions after the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) suspended six public transport operators, including widely used Guardian Coach, Greenline, and Naekana Route 134.
The suspensions follow multiple fatal crashes over the December 2025 festive season, speed violations, and non-compliance with PSV safety standards.
Drivers’ PSV endorsements were cancelled, with suspensions lasting 90 days, after which re-testing will be required.
Operators must now meet strict safety and operational conditions before resuming services:
- Submit all vehicles for speed limiter functionality checks and compliance inspections at designated inspection centres
- Establish operational offices or coordination points at major county pick-up and drop-off locations
- Provide accurate passenger manifests for all long-distance trips
- Submit updated fleet maintenance schedules and service records to ensure roadworthiness
- Implement fatigue management systems, including driver rest areas and driver change-over arrangements for long-distance routes
- Submit internal manuals and journey management procedures, covering speed monitoring, driver assignments, night operation controls, and emergency response protocols
- Present signed contracts for drivers and staff, along with proof of payroll, PAYE, NSSF and SHA compliance for the last six months.
- Conduct NTSA-facilitated road safety sensitisation sessions for all drivers, with reports, photos, and attendance records submitted to the Authority.
NTSA has directed traffic police to impound vehicles from the suspended operators found operating during the suspension. Passengers are strongly advised not to board buses from the affected companies until all conditions are fully met.
The move is part of NTSA’s intensified crackdown on road safety violations, aiming to prevent more deadly crashes and protect passengers across Kenya.
