Nzioka Waita tells Machakos youth to reject underperforming leaders in 2027

Nzioka Waita, the Machakos 2022 gubernatorial runner-up, spoke at AIC Kayangii in Kangundo on Sunday urging peaceful voter registration.

Machakos County Governor aspirant Nzioka Waita has called on young people to register as voters if they hope to change leadership in the country.

Mr Waita, who vied in the 2022 gubernatorial election emerging second, said nothing will happen if young people did not take up votes.

"There's mass registration from IEBC coming up beginning March. Those who think they will change the government by staying at home should know that nothing will happen," said Mr Waita said.

He was speaking at AIC Kayangii in Kangundo constituency on Sunday.

Mr Waita also decried an emerging trend of young people being used to cause violence in rallies.

He said it is wrong for young people to be used by politicians to cause violence thus risking being hurt or killed in the process.

"Your future is being stolen by politicians who use you to cause violence. We don't want young people dying for nothing. We don't want young people dying on behalf of politicians," he said.

Mr Waita added that he had no personal differences with any politician and that he was not inclined to political violence.

He urged the youth to remain peaceful as they engage in politics.

He told them to choose wisely and reject leaders who had not performed after being granted the opportunity by wananchi.

Mr Waita called on the police to exercise restraint while dealing with wananchi and leaders who were out to sell their agenda to the people.

He said the country should not be governed through violence as that will give room to bad people with monopoly of violence.

Mr Waita cautioned the voters to be wary of people peddling tribal politics or using religious persuasion rather than convincing manifestos.

Mr Waita who retreated to private business after the 2022 general election, is expected to vie again in the 2027 polls.

He however steered clear of criticizing the incumbent Governor Wavinya Ndeti in his address to the media.
