Leaders confirm return after Ramadan pause as parallel NDC battle looms in Nairobi.
NAIROBI — The Linda Mwananchi faction within ODM has announced the resumption of its nationwide mobilisation, unveiling a schedule that includes a Narok rally, a People’s National Delegates Convention (NDC) in Nairobi, and a Mombasa tour stop.
Speaking during a Wednesday briefing, Siaya Governor James Orengo said the group is now ready to restart activities after a temporary pause.
“We now feel comfortable to announce to the country… our activities in the coming week,” he said.
Rallies and people's NDC dates confirmed
The faction outlined three key events:
- March 22 (Sunday) — Prayer meeting and public rally in Narok
- March 27 (Friday) — People’s NDC in Nairobi
- March 29 (Sunday) — Public rally in Mombasa
“We are going to begin our activities this weekend… on the 22nd with a prayer and public meeting in Narok,” Mr Orengo said.
“On the 27th, we are holding a people’s national delegates convention here in Nairobi… and on the 29th we are having a meeting in Mombasa," said Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi.
Why the tour had paused
The leaders confirmed the earlier pause--especially the Mombasa leg--was deliberate and tied to Ramadan.
“We wish to pass messages of goodwill to our Muslim brothers during this holy month of Ramadan,” said Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.
The MP added that the Mombasa meeting had been postponed “because of the holy month of Ramadan.”
Parallel NDC showdown in Nairobi
The March 27 Nairobi meeting is expected to be a flashpoint, with leaders confirming it will run parallel to another NDC organised by a rival ODM faction.
Mr Osotsi emphasized that their event is distinct:
“We didn’t talk about a national delegates convention… we talked about a people’s national delegates convention.”
The Senator who is one of ODM deputy party leaders said their gathering is meant to include delegates they claim have been excluded elsewhere:
“Those who have been left out… will have an opportunity to attend the real people’s NDC," said Mr Osotsi.
They also warned members against attending the rival convention:
“Any ODM member should be aware that the NDC convened by the other group is illegal… and should be avoided.”
Mobilisation strategy
The faction said the rallies and convention are part of a broader effort to rebuild grassroots engagement across the country.
“We are going to go everywhere in the republic preaching that message,” said Mr Osotsi.
