Police have arrested several suspects and recovered weapons and stolen items following gang attacks reported in Mombasa, Kilifi, and Siaya counties, the National Police Service (NPS) has said.

In a statement issued on Friday, Police spokesman Muchiri Nyaga dismissed claims that criminal gangs were freely operating across the three counties, saying the incidents were isolated, investigated, and already before court.

In Mombasa’s Tononoka area, police said a security guard was attacked on January 28 by young men armed with crude weapons. Two suspects were arrested while a third remains at large.

Knives and a machete were recovered, and the case is already in court.

“Two key suspects have been arrested, and a third is at large. A variety of exhibits were also recovered, and the case is already before the court,” said Mr Nyaga.

In Mtwapa, Kilifi County, three suspects were arrested following a robbery attack on a shop owner that was captured on CCTV on the same day.

Police recovered crude weapons, 49 assorted mobile phones, electronic items, and gas cylinders. All suspects have since been arraigned.

“The attack was thoroughly investigated, leading to the successful arrest of key suspects and recovery of stolen property,” Mr Nyaga said.

In Bondo, Siaya County, police said a specialised team of detectives had made a critical breakthrough after analysing the incident, with further updates expected.

“Crime of any nature will be confronted firmly and lawfully,” Mr Nyaga said.

The thanked members of the public for providing crucial information.

The reassurance comes amid intensified security operations directed by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, who has in recent weeks ordered enhanced patrols, intelligence-led operations, and faster response times, particularly in urban centres and known crime hotspots.

The Inspector-General of the National Police Service has also directed officers to accelerate service delivery to guarantee the safety of people and property.

Police urged the public to report suspicious activity through 999, 911, or 112, or anonymously via #FichuaKwaDCI, saying public cooperation remains critical in dismantling criminal networks.

“The National Police Service remains resolute in its duty to protect life and property and is  to dealing severely with all forms of criminality,” Mr Nyaga said.
