Relief for motorists as petrol prices drop by Sh4

The drop is due to a fall in the average landed cost of imported fuel.

Motorists and transport operators in Kenya are getting a break this month as petrol and other fuels become cheaper at the pump.

The news pump prices announced by Energy and Petroleum  Regulatory Authority (EPRA) offer relief against rising transport and living costs.

EPRA announced that the maximum retail prices of petroleum products will decrease from February 15 to March 14, 2026.

"The drop is due to a fall in the average landed cost of imported fuel, influenced by global market trends and exchange rate movements," said EPRA  Director General Daniel Kiptoo.

In Nairobi, the new maximum retail prices are:

  • Super Petrol: Sh178.28 per litre (down Sh4.24)
  • Diesel: Sh166.54 per litre (down Sh3.93)
  • Kerosene: Sh152.78 per litre (down Sh1.00).

In Mombasa, prices are:

  • Super Petrol: Sh175.00 per litre
  • Diesel: Sh163.26 per litre
  • Kerosene: Sh149.49 per litre.

In Kisumu, prices are:

  • Super Petrol: Sh178.16 per litre
  • Diesel: Sh166.42 per litre
  • Kerosene: Sh152.66 per litre.

“Fuel prices are sensitive to global market movements and currency exchange rates,” said Mr Kiptoo.

“Kenya imports all petroleum products in refined form, and US dollar fluctuations affect pump prices.”

Transport operators welcomed the reduction.

One Nairobi matatu driver Michael Mwaura said, “Every shilling off the pump matters. This is some relief for us after months of high prices.”

The new prices take effect at midnight and will remain for 30 days until the next review.
