Senator Methu cut off mid-speech at memorial service for late Ol Kalou MP
Nyandarua Senator John Methu was abruptly cut off by ushers while delivering a speech at a memorial service for the late Ol Kalou MP David Njuguna Kiaraho.
The service, held at the proposed Nyandarua University grounds on Wednesday, drew thousands of mourners, including President William Ruto.
Senator Methu had begun paying tribute to Kiaraho’s leadership when he openly confronted President William Ruto.
“Me as, John Methu, an adult of sound mind, senator of Nyandarua County, I respect you as President… but even as I respect you, I don’t fear you," said.
Upon this, the senator was asked to sit down to allow the programme to proceed.
The interruption caused a stir among attendees, though the senator complied without incident.
The late Kiaraho, affectionately known as “Daddy wa Power,” was remembered for his dedication to his constituents, charitable work, and contributions to road and infrastructure development.
Religious leaders from over 100 denominations led the memorial, calling on mourners to embrace service and unity.
President Ruto praised Kiaraho as a focused and hardworking legislator, highlighting his commitment to development and the well-being of his community.
Nationa Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula described him as a respected and disciplined leader.
He noted that his three consecutive terms reflected the trust of his constituents.
The memorial, organized by the Presbyterian Church of East Africa, concluded with the presentation of Kiaraho’s Hansard records to his family, documenting his parliamentary contributions.
