Senator Osotsi attacked in Kisumu, airlifted to Nairobi
Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi was on Wednesday attacked and injured in Kisumu while going about his routine activities, in an incident that has triggered sharp political reactions and raised questions over the motive.
The senator was assaulted within the Western Mall area before being rushed to hospital and later airlifted to Nairobi for specialised treatment.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna confirmed the incident after speaking to Osotsi’s team, describing the attack as “vicious” and calling for immediate police action.
Siaya Governor James Orengo condemned the incident, terming it a “barbaric ambush” and linking it to what he described as a pattern of political intimidation.
“Make no mistake, this was not a random act of violence. This is a clearly coordinated and organised pattern aimed at silencing the voices of the people,” Mr Orengo said.
He further claimed the attack could be part of a broader scheme to incite division, urging authorities to secure and review CCTV footage from the scene and bring those responsible to justice.
The circumstances surrounding the assault remain unclear, including the identity of the attackers and whether the incident was targeted.
Police had not issued an official statement by the time of publication.
The attack comes amid heightened political tensions, with Senator Osotsi aligned to the “Linda Mwananchi” faction that opposes cooperation between the Orange Democratic Movement and the government.
His stance has placed him at the centre of internal political contestation.
Authorities are expected to investigate the matter and determine whether there was any political motive behind the attack.
