SHA suspends Bungoma West Hospital over suspected fraudulent claims
The Social Health Authority (SHA) has suspended Bungoma West Hospital for 90 days following suspected fraudulent claims, including fictitious billing, under Contract CN-49311.
The action comes after preliminary investigations revealed breaches of Clause 16 on corrupt and fraudulent practices.
During the suspension, the hospital is barred from admitting SHA beneficiaries, processing claims, or receiving payments.
SHA has instructed the facility to transfer all current patients to the nearest SHA-contracted hospitals and notify beneficiaries immediately.
CEO of SHA, Dr Mercy Mwangangi, warned that any health care facility found engaging in fraudulent claims will face immediate suspension and further sanctions, underscoring the authority’s zero-tolerance approach.
Since its rollout, SHA has faced multiple controversies--particularly related to suspected fraudulent claims and irregular payments to contracted hospitals.
These issues have repeatedly forced the authority to tighten oversight and take punitive action against erring facilities.
