Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga has officially received instruments of power after his endorsement as the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader during the Special Delegates Conference (SDC) at Jamhuri A.S.K Showground on Friday.
The handover ceremony was presided over by retired judge and Kilifi Senator Justice Stewart Madzayo, marking the formal recognition of Oburu Oginga’s leadership by party delegates.
"I hereby hand over to you the Constitution of Kenya and the Constitution of ODM as a symbol of your authority to lead the party," said Justice Madzayo.
Meanwhile, ODM Party Chairperson Gladys Wanga clarified that other vacancies in the party, including deputy leadership roles, would be addressed later.
“The Special Delegates Conference deals exclusively with the agenda of the day,” she said.
The SDC has already seen high-profile developments: Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, aligned with the Linda Mwananchi faction, was dropped as a deputy party leader after failing to secure a proposer and seconder.
Other nominations and ratifications are ongoing, shaping the leadership structure of the party.
Delegates continue to vote on key positions, while discussions are expected to set the tone for party unity and strategic direction ahead of upcoming political cycles.
