Speaker Wetang'ula visits ailing MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi in India

MP Wanyonyi travelled to India late 2025 after spending several weeks receiving treatment in Nairobi.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has visited Kwanza Constituency MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi at KIMS Health Care Management Limited in Kerala, India, where the legislator is undergoing specialised treatment.

During the visit, the Speaker was briefed by the medical team led by Dr Nitha J, a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Consultant, who confirmed that the MP is responding well to treatment and rehabilitation under close medical supervision.

“The medical team has assured us that Hon. Wanyonyi is stable and making progress,” the Speaker said after the briefing.

MP Wanyonyi travelled to India late 2025 after spending several weeks receiving treatment in Nairobi.

His doctors advised that he required specialised care and rehabilitation unavailable locally.

His absence from public engagements fuelled online rumours claiming he had died, messages that circulated widely on social media and caused anxiety among residents of Kwanza Constituency.

At the time last year, the Speaker dismissed the reports as false and irresponsible.

He urged the public to rely on verified information.

“Hon. Wanyonyi is alive, receiving treatment and improving. Kenyans should stop spreading unverified information that causes unnecessary distress,” Mr Wetang’ula told Parliament.

The Speaker said the National Assembly will continue to receive regular medical updates and that Wanyonyi will resume his duties once doctors clear him to travel back to Kenya.

In the meantime, constituency affairs continue under existing parliamentary arrangements.
