Tahmeed loses 23 drivers in latest NTSA crackdown

Tahmeed Express has had 23 of its drivers suspended by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) in a major crackdown on road safety, just days before the Christmas holidays.

The move is part of a wider action affecting 62 public service vehicle (PSV) drivers from seven operators.

They include Latema Travellers, Meru Nissan, Moline Prestige, MTrans Sacco, and Enabled Mashariki Investment.

NTSA says the suspensions follow a compliance audit that uncovered widespread safety violations, including reckless driving, poor vehicle maintenance, and failure to meet required road safety standards.

All affected drivers are required to undergo mandatory re-testing before they are allowed back on the road.

The Authority has also ordered the operators to conduct road safety awareness sessions for their staff and submit specific vehicles for mechanical inspection.

“With millions of Kenyans expected to travel for family gatherings and end-of-year events, reckless driving and poorly maintained vehicles pose serious risks,” NTSA said.

“This is part of our proactive efforts to ensure every driver has the skills and discipline needed to operate safely,” added the statement released on Tuesday.

The Authority has intensified surveillance ahead of the festive peak, a period when road crashes typically rise due to speeding, fatigue, drunk driving, and night travel.

NTSA warns that more enforcement operations are expected in the coming days as police and NTSA teams conduct joint inspections along major highways.
