At least two(2) people died on the spot on Monday after a Kenya Bus Service (KBS) crashed on several motorcycles near the junction of Argwings Kodhek and Oledume Road in Nairobi.
Police said the victims in the incident included a boda boda rider and his pillion passenger.
About 30 other passengers in the bus were injured in the accident, police said.
Police said the accident happened at about 8am causing a huge traffic jam on the roads and adjacent ones.
According to police, a bus racing from Kawangware to the Central Business District (CBD) failed its brakes and rammed into the motorcycle ahead of it and also into several motorcycles and motor vehicles ahead of it.
The bus later crashed onto the edge of the road fatally injuring the rider and his female passenger.
According to an eyewitness, it first hit a double cabin pick-up from behind.
The traffic police officer at the scene flagged down the bus, instructing the driver to stop. However, the bus driver defied the police officer and attempted to flee before crashing the motorcycle in the other lane.
“The bus hit the pick-up first, but the driver didn’t stop despite the officer's instructions. He kept going, hitting several other vehicles, including a boda boda, before coming to a halt," the eyewitness said.
Police said the bodies were later moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.
The bus was towed to Kilimani police station pending investigations.
