UDA awards certificates to party primary winners
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has issued nomination certificates to candidates who won its recent party primaries, clearing them to contest in upcoming by-elections.
The certificates formalise the party’s endorsement of its nominees and allow them to begin preparations for the polls.
Speaking during a press briefing at the party’s headquarters in Nairobi, UDA Secretary-General Hassan Omar handed over the certificates and congratulated the winners.
“These nominees have earned the party’s confidence and will now carry its flag in the by-elections,” SG Omar said.
The party also underscored its use of a fully digital system for conducting the primaries, a first in Kenyan politics.
Officials said the technology allowed for a transparent and efficient nomination process.
“This shows that free and fair internal elections are possible when we adopt modern tools,” the SG added.
The issuance of certificates follows UDA’s strong performance in recent by-elections, including key parliamentary and county assembly seats. Analysts say these victories demonstrate the party’s organisational strength and readiness as the country approaches the 2027 polls.
The SG also addressed political tensions, cautioning former President Uhuru Kenyatta against moves aimed at undermining President William Ruto’s administration.
“Stop living in denial,” he said, warning that such actions could disrupt progress and national unity.
He, however, did not elaborate on what the former President may have done to irk the powers that be.
With certificates now issued, UDA’s nominees are expected to formally file their papers with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission and begin campaigns.
Party leaders reiterated the importance of broad mobilisation as the by-elections approach.
