Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna remained unwavering in his defence of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between ODM and UDA, insisting it was designed to address youth unemployment and curb police misconduct.

He made the remarks on the floor of the Senate even as the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) in Mombasa formally removed him as Secretary-General.

Mr Sifuna believes that the March 2025 pact between President William Ruto and the late Raila Odinga was more than a political handshake.

The agreement committed both sides to protect constitutional freedoms, strengthen devolution, empower youth economically, reform the police service, and ensure accountability in governance.

The MoU specifically targeted the creation of employment opportunities, promotion of youth-led businesses, and measures to curb abuse by law enforcement officers--issues Sifuna says remain urgent.

“The MoU was meant to address the real challenges facing young people, from unemployment to police misconduct,” he said while contributing to a statement sought by Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei.

Mr Cherargei sought a statement from the Standing Committee on National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations.

He wanted to know the status of investigations into the assault of youth who were playing pool in Nandi Hills town by RDU officers.

While contributing to the statement,  Mr Sifuna condemned the incodent and said the MoU intended to cure such issues.

Moments later, the Nairobi Senator posted on his Facebook page a photo with fellow Linda Mwananchi Tour leaders  hinting at a public engagement in Kitengela on Sunday, 15 February, from 11 a.m.

The post was captioned: "After mass ya kwanza kama kawa...Kite hoyee".
