Water supply disruption hits 11 neighbourhoods in Nairobi

Nairobi Water urges residents of 11 neighbourhoods to remain patient as it repairs damaged pumps and control panels at Kabete pumping station.

Residents of at least 11 neighbourhoods in Nairobi and its environs have been urged to remain patient as Nairobi Water continues with repair works at Kabete pumping station.

Affected areas include estates along Naivasha Road, Kawangware, Gatina, Kabiro, Riruta Satellite, Dagoretti Corner, whole of Ngando, Kangemi, Mountain View, Karen, and Ongata Rongai.

In a statement on Wednesday, Nairobi Water said the 24-hour water supply interruption--which started on Tuesday--would necessitate repair works on six(6) pump motors and their electrical control panels at Kabete pumping station.

The pumps, at Kabete, assist to increase water pressure and move the flow towards Dagoretti and Uthiru reservoirs.

A butterfly pump at the Kabete Water Treatment Works failed on May 4, 2025, splashing water to the pump motors and control panels resulting to the damage.

“The Technical team spent the better part of May 6, 2025, repairing the pipeline and which is currently ongoing. The repair of the motors will be completed on Wednesday at 9pm,” Nairobi Water said in a statement.

Normal water supply to the affected areas will resume tonight, the company said.
