Will impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Tuesday appear at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to shed light on claims that there were two assassination attempts on his life?

This is the question that lingers on the minds of many Kenyans after the DCI summoned Mr Gachagua to appear at Mazingira Complex, along Kiambu Road to record a statement.

Embattled Gachagua immediately after he was discharged from the Karen Hospital on Sunday--Mashujaa Day, he alleged that state agents attempted to kill him through poisoning.

"Your were quoted saying that ‘On August 30, 2024, in Kisumu, undercover security agents entered my room bugged it and tried to poison my food. We detected it and was able to escape the scheme. I was supposed to be killed by poisoning’," the DCI summons letter refers to Mr Gachagua quotes.

According to the letter sent to Mr Gachagua, he also made similar claims that on September 3, 2024, the National Security Intelligence Service (NIS) agents also made a move to poison his food while in a tour to Nyeri.

He was to share a meal with the Kikuyu Council of elders.

The detectives say the claims by Mr Gachagua cannot be taken lightly considering his stature in the society.

"In the light of the seriousness of this matter, we kindly request your presence on October 22, 2024, at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations at Mazingira Complex, Kiambu Road to record a statement to prompt thorough investigations on the matter.

"We understand the sensitivity of the matter and assure you that this matter will be handled with the seriousness it deserves," says part of the summons letter signed by J. K. Marete and directed at Mr Gachagua.
