Mathioya MP reveals Ndindi Nyoro stance on Gachagua ouster

Mathioya MP Edwin Mugo, who supports ouster motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, now says he and Murang'a Woman Representative Betty Maina act on behalf of Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro.

"Dr Mugo and the Woman Rep Betty Maina are the foot soldiers of Ndindi Nyoro in terms of setting a leverage and a model of issue-based politics in Murang'a County and Kenya at large," he said in an October 5, 2024, press statement.

Mr Nyoro did not sign the motion that was tabled by Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse on October 1, 2024, supported by 291 MPs.

While Mr Nyoro's silence has been confusing political pundits, the declaration by Mr Mugo shines a spotlight on possibility that he supports the ouster motion.

Mr Nyoro is also among names being fronted by State House mandarins as among possible beneficiaries should DP Gachagua indeed get thrown under the bus.

When we asked Mr Nyoro whether Mr Mugo's damning declaration was true, he did not respond.

In Murang'a County, those who supported the ouster motion against their own Gachagua are Mr Mugo, Ms Maina, and nominated MP Sabina Chege.

Those opposed are Gatanga's Edward Muriu, Chege Njuguna (Kandara), Joseph Munyoro (Kigumo), Peter Kihungi (Kangema), and Maragua's Mary Wamaua, a move that has made them people's darlings in a region that on October 4, 2024, public participation forums opposed the ouster move.

Mr Mugo insisted that "my wing of politics (as read as my stand, that of Ms Maina and with a possibility of Mr Nyoro whom they sell his agenda) is a sharp critic of the DP".

He cited a recent incident when Mathioya was ravaged by a landslide that killed five(5) people and displaced dozens of residents.

Mr Mugo said the DP visited the area to condole with the victims "without involving me".

"Mugo's key reason why he wants the second in command out is because of his high handedness in his style of leadership," those were his exact words.

He added: “For example during the premier maiden inaugural landslide visit to Murang'a, the DP openly sidelined the MP and said only the area MCA had invited him.”

But the truth of the matter is that Mr Mugo had visited the victims two(2) hours earlier accompanied by Mr Nyoro, Mr Nyutu, Ms Maina, and Murang'a Governor Irungu Kang'ata's Youth Chief Executive Manoah Gachucha.

Besides Mr Nyoro donating Sh2 million saying that half of it was from President William Ruto, his entourage minus Mr Gachucha 'coronated' the Kiharu MP as greatest of greats in the county.

Mr Gachagua jetted into the same venue later to find Mr Mugo and his visitors gone in a clear scripted political calculation to avoid the DP whose security detail had in advance issued an alert of the intended visit and which had been shared with all area political leaders.

In defending his support for Gachagua ouster, Mr Mugo added that "I can enumerate that he is deficient in several factors, chiefly among them being lack of a 'national face' and being unable to drop the tribal tag that is dwarfing him in Kenya's political landscape".

Another major unsettling trait associated with the DP, he added, "is his undoing in articulating the issues he pledged to pursue especially those to do with coffee tea, dairy and horticulture sectors".

Other than being candid on these issues, the MP accused, "the DP has chosen to seek for sympathy... It may not work for him in the long run mainly because he has two(2) greatest impediments...inability to quell the flaring high octane politics before they ran out of hand and herding the region into government without a political party".

He said the DP as he stands now "has no command or influence in Parliament".

Mr Mugo demandingly said that "if let's say he has even a Cow's party, he could easily be able to whip MPs and have his agenda articulated in the Mountain".

With those two(2) major dilemmas, the MP said, coupled with the adage that charity begins at home, and here is a DP who cannot command and net the Mountain to himself, "how can he convince Kenyans that he has the standing of a statesman?".

MP Mugo ploughed on that "another crippling effect is the DP's blatant lack of a profound interest to show remorse for insulting and disrespecting former president Uhuru Kenyatta, who to a great extent is still Mt Kenya's political spokesman and kingpin".

Mr Gachagua has since issued a public apology for what he termed as "rabid behaviour of tearing into each other here in the Mountain, the Kenyatta family bearing the brunt of this".

Mr Mugo termed the apology as "superficial as offered, but he never bothered to go down the roots and use the rightful channels of mending fences with his former boss".

However, Kikuyu Council of Elders Chairman Wachira Kiago said "in our Agikuyu community culture, he who apologises is automatically deemed as a peacemaker and all hostilities are regarded as pacified".

Mr Mugo blew his own trumpet by describing himself as a PhD holder, eloquent man, academic giant and a statesman who has won the hearts of the people of Mathioya because of his charisma, passion, intelligence, and a kind heart.

"Mr Mugo is iconic... He is the pioneer critic of the DP in the  whole of Murang'a County, and for him he embraces positive criticism other than empty political rhetoric or vendetta...Mr Mugo does not tolerate shenanigans," he said.

However, the first critic in Murang'a County is Senator Joe Nyutu who thrice has called for the sacking of Mr Gachagua and his position handed Mr Nyoro".

But in the recent past, Mr Nyutu has rejoined Mr Gachagua's wing in what in the light of Mr Mugo's damning declaration, might as well amount to tactical and strategic calculation.
