Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has threatened to sue proponents of smear campaign on social media.

This follows the recent unverified reports on social media which alleged that she was arrested in the UK.

Ms Ndeti has dismissed the allegations that she and her son Charles Oduwale, were arrested in the UK while attempting to bank hundreds of millions of shillings.

In a press statement posted on her official Facebook page on Monday morning, the Machakos Governor warned that those driving the online propaganda campaign against her and her family, will face the law.

“Anybody involved will be identified, pursued and brought before the law. All those peddling baseless rumours and propaganda and fake news, this amounts to defamation and misuse of electronic media spreading falsehoods. Such malicious misinformation has created perceptions against me and family members that endanger our lives,” said the governor.

The online social media posts sent shockwaves across Machakos and the entire country with many citizens wondering how the alleged heist involving such huge sums of cash could be sneaked through major airports.

Ms Ndeti said those spreading the falsified information are ignorant of international customs protocols.

“They are ignorant of the robust nature of the UK border control and financial institutions. I can confirm that my family and I are safe and sound and remain in good standing both at home and abroad,” she added.

At the same time, Machakos County Secretary Muya Ndambuki, who addresses the media at the governor's office in Machakos, vowed the county government will immediately institute a relentless effort to ensure legal action is taken against those involved in the publication of “false and demeaning information against the governor.”
