The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has released the distribution of teaching posts across Kenya, targeting primary, secondary, and junior secondary schools.

The new allocation, posted on October 1 and October 2, 2024, is part of the commission’s ongoing efforts to address teacher shortages and enhance staffing in schools nationwide.

The initiative aims to ensure equitable access to quality education by filling gaps in subject-specific positions, particularly in rural and underserved areas.

In secondary schools, the allocation covers various subject combinations needed in counties across the country.

For instance, in Kiambu County within the Central region, Gakoe Mixed Secondary School will receive a teacher for Mathematics/Physics, while Handege Secondary will get a Kiswahili/History teacher.

Other allocations in the same region include Math/Biology at Joytown Special School in Thika West and Bio/Chemistry at Muna Secondary in Limuru.

Similarly, coastal counties such as Taita Taveta are set to benefit, with schools like Elijah Mzae Secondary in Mwatate receiving teachers for Mathematics/Geography, and specialised subjects like Arabic/IRE being allocated to various schools in Lamu.

For primary schools, a total of 6,000 posts have been allocated across various counties.

Counties like Baringo and Bomet have each been allocated 127 posts, targeting sub-counties such as Baringo Central, Koibatek, and Tiaty East.

Bungoma County will receive 128 posts, with positions distributed across sub-counties like Bumula, Kimilili, and Webuye West.

Busia County has also been allocated 127 posts, with vacancies in areas like Butula, Samia, and Nambale.

The primary school allocation seeks to address the teacher shortages in these regions, ensuring adequate staffing in critical areas.

For junior secondary schools, the TSC has allocated over 39,550 posts nationwide.

Baringo County alone will receive 1,070 posts, while Bomet is set to get 1,133.

Bungoma County will receive 1,305 posts, and Homa Bay has been allocated 1,075.

In Kakamega County, 1,500 posts have been distributed across sub-counties like Butere, Likuyani, and Lugari.

Additionally, Kericho County will get 1,003 posts to cover schools in Belgut, Kipkelion, and Soin/Sigowet sub-counties.

The Teachers Service Commission’s strategic allocation of posts for October 2024 is a significant move aimed at reducing the teacher-to-student ratio and improving education quality across Kenya.

By prioritising rural and underserved regions, the TSC continues to ensure that schools are adequately staffed with qualified educators, enhancing learning outcomes for students across the country.
