HACO Industries provides products and training expertise to help cleaning professionals deliver higher-quality services and grow their businesses.
For many women in Kenya, cleaning and laundry work has long meant long hours, low pay, and little recognition.
Today, some are turning that routine labor into a path toward independence, professional pride, and a more secure future.
The transformation comes through a training and empowerment initiative for cleaning and laundry professionals where participants gain hands-on skills in modern laundry techniques, effective cleaning practices, fabric care, stain removal, and workplace hygiene.
The programme also includes financial literacy, teaching participants how to manage their earnings and grow a sustainable income.
Supporting the initiative is HACO Industries, a Kenyan company known for its homecare and personal care brands, including SoSoft and ACE. The company provides products and training expertise to help cleaning professionals deliver higher-quality services and grow their businesses.
The Mama Fua App complements the programme by connecting trained professionals with households and businesses seeking reliable cleaning services. Through the app, participants can reach more clients, expand their businesses, and maintain a consistent income.
Eldoret served as one of the recent training sites. Cleaning and laundry professionals participated in sessions designed to give them real-world skills they can apply immediately.
They also learned how to manage their earnings for long-term stability. This combination of practical skills and financial knowledge is helping participants grow both professionally and personally.
For years, the sector was largely informal. Many “Mama Fua” professionals relied on self-taught skills and word-of-mouth clients.
Training was rare, protective measures limited, and opportunities to grow a business were scarce. Most workers lacked recognition, professional tools, or consistent income, making it difficult to support their families.
Speaking during the Eldoret training, Joan Chege, home care category manager at HACO Industries, said the programme reflects a commitment to strengthening local enterprise ecosystems.
“We recognize the important role that cleaning and laundry professionals play in households across Kenya. Through our partnership with Mama Fua, we aim to provide practical training and tools that empower these entrepreneurs,” she said.
Stephine Nguta, a representative from Mama Fua, emphasized that empowering cleaning professionals with the right skills and tools creates sustainable opportunities for individuals and families who rely on this sector for their livelihoods.
Similar initiatives are ongoing in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, and Nakuru.
By combining practical training, HACO’s product expertise, and tech-enabled client access through the Mama Fua App, the program is helping cleaning professionals across Kenya gain recognition, professional credibility, and financial stability.
For many workers, this initiative is more than training. It is a step toward transforming lives, uplifting families, and raising the profile of a sector that quietly but critically keeps Kenyan homes and businesses running.
