Murkomen leads security meeting to tackle banditry in Meru County

Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen chaired a high-level security meeting at Mbataru Camp amid rising cattle rustling incidents that have claimed lives and livestock in Meru County.

The Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration Kipchumba Murkomen on Monday led a high-level security meeting at Mbataru RDU Camp in Tigania East Sub-County, Meru County.

The meeting comes on the backdrop of a surge in cattle-rustling that has left some loss of lives and livestock in the county.

The CS announced a serious crackdown by security agents to flash out the bandits and deployment of 400 additional police officers in the affected parts of Tigania East, Tigania Central and Igembe North constituencies.

Mr Murkomen also announced that the government will intensify efforts to recover stolen livestock and mop up illegal arms in Samburu, Laikipia and Meru counties.

He noted that similar operations in Elgeyo-Marakwet, Turkana, Baringo, West Pokot, and Isiolo counties have seen the return of peace in those counties.

He also warned politicians against using insecurity to score political points.

“We will deal firmly with banditry. Those who shield criminals will not be spared," he said, stating that the government will take decisive action against them regardless of their community or political affiliation.

The CS was accompanied by IG Douglas Kanja, among other senior security officials.
