BREAKING: Isiolo South MP Mohamed Tubi Bidu dies in Nairobi

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula hails first-term lawmaker's dedication as tributes flood in for former Isiolo County Assembly pioneer Speaker.

Isiolo South Member of Parliament Mohamed Tubi Bidu is dead, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has confirmed.

Speaker Wetang'ula in a notification said Bidu, a first-term parliamentarian, passed away on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at The Nairobi Hospital.

He said he had a brief, but impactful career, marked by dedication to his constituents and a deep-rooted commitment to public service.

“Until his demise, Hon Tubi Bidu was a member of of the Departmental Committee on Environment, Forestry, and Mining, and the Public Petitions Committee,” Dr Wetang'ula said.

H described his passing as a “profound loss to Parliament and the nation.”

President William Ruto expressed deep sorrow, calling him a dedicated public servant and a passionate advocate for education.

On behalf of the government and the people of Kenya, the President extended heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and constituents.

“His commitment to transforming the lives of his constituents and advancing development in Isiolo stands as a lasting legacy of his leadership,” said Dr Ruto.

Speaker Wetang’ula noted that Bidu served the nation with distinction, leaving a mark as a legislator who prioritised community development.

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale and Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo also mourned his passing, calling him a humble and committed leader whose loss will be felt across Northern Kenya.

Bidu was the inaugural Speaker of the Isiolo County Assembly in 2013, a position he held with distinction until 2017.

In 2022, he made his foray into national politics, securing the Isiolo South seat under the Jubilee Party banner in what was his first bid for Parliament.

He has died at the age of 67.

He held a Diploma in Wildlife Management from the College of African Wildlife Management, Moshi, Tanzania, and a Bachelor of Arts in Community Development from Gretsa University.

He also served in various wildlife conservation positions, including Chief Game Warden in Isiolo, Maasai Mara, and Samburu.

He was widely respected for championing education, environmental conservation, and development initiatives in his constituency.

Condolences have poured in from leaders and communities, with many describing him as a devoted servant of the people.
