A 51-year-old man from Chepterwai location in Mosop constituency, Nandi County, is nursing severe head injuries after he was allegedly attacked and cut by the area Assistant Chief of Cheptonon, who is said to have been heavily intoxicated while on duty.

AVDelta News found Mr Samwel Korir at his home in the quiet village of Cheptonon, appearing to be in great pain, where he narrated how he was brutally attacked.

He claims the attacker is the Assistant Chief Philip Cheramba.

During the attack, the weapon used--new machete--broke.

Mr Korir, a father of five(5), said he was walking around his maize farm in the evening with a machete.

"I spotted him (the chief) passing by carrying alcohol in containers. He then turned against me and cut my head badly with the machete without any reason before fleeing," said Mr Korir.

According to Mr Korir's family, the victim was planning a celebration for his two(2) daughters’ weddings slated for November.

"We are disappointed that the entire event has been greatly affected as we have had to seek unexpected medical treatment for him," said Mr David Chepkwony, a brother to Mr Korir.

The family has called on the national government to intervene so they can get full justice after filing a report at Selia Police Station.

But they say no action has been taken against the chief who is said to be roaming around harassing and abusing women as well.

Irate hundreds of residents of Chepterwai location matched to Mr Korir's home to console him for narrowly escaping death, even as they demanded that the Assistant Chief be immediately dismissed and arrested to serve as a lesson to others in the country.

By Thursday, Nandi County Commissioner Caroline Nzwili and Police Commander Dickens Njogu told journalists that they had no report on the incident.

"We willl however follow up the matter and take strict legal action once we confirm the incident. All government officers should discharge their duties with the highest degree of professionalism," said Mr Njogu.
