The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has issued a summons to Kimilili MP Didmus Wekesa Barasa Mutua, to facilitate investigations into bribery allegations.
According to the letter dated August 21, 2024, the EACC is probing an alleged bribery transaction that occurred on December 13, 2023.
Despite an earlier summons on August 14, 2024, Mr Barasa failed to attend the scheduled interview at the Integrity Centre in Nairobi.
"The Commission invited you for an interview and statement recording at Integrity Centre Nairobi on August 14, 2024. However, you did not turn up. The Commission hereby accords you a second opportunity to come and respond to allegations of bribery made against you," read the letter in part.
The Commission granted him a second opportunity to appear on August 27, 2024, at 9am for an interview and statement recording.
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) MP has been warned that failure to attend will lead to the conclusion of the inquiry and possible recommendations against him.
This development comes amid ongoing scrutiny of public officials in Kenya as part of the government's broader anti-corruption efforts.
Bribery and corruption remain significant challenges in Kenya's political landscape, and the EACC has been intensifying efforts to hold public servants accountable for their actions.
