As police investigate the cause of Dr Desree Moraa's death, the Ministry of Health has sent condolences to her family and friends.

"It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss that we mourn the untimely passing of Dr Desiree, a young, dedicated health care professional with so much potential but whose life was tragically cut short. On behalf of the Ministry of Health, I extend our deepest condolences to Dr Moraa's family, friends, and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time," read the statement signed by the Cabinet Secretary for Health Deborah Mlongo Barasa.

In the statement released on Wednesday, CS Barasa mentioned that the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with county governments, is implementing robust workplace mental wellness programmes targeting health care workers across the country.

Dr Moraa,27, was an intern at Gatundu Level 5 Hospital.

She was found dead on a balcony, with a suicide note suggesting she took her own life on Sunday.

This incident has sparked widespread concern about the mental health challenges faced by health care professionals, especially interns, in Kenya.

To honour her memory and raise awareness of these critical issues, health care workers announced a 36-hour period of mourning, starting at noon on Tuesday, urging all health care stakeholders to join them.
