Students from Matungulu Boys' High School in Kangundo sub-County on Wednesday night walked out of school to the nearby Tala town as they protested over exams.

They invaded a nearby hotel and ate food and fruits from vendors for free.

The rowdy students said they were angered by reports that they will have to stay in school longer because the government had no money to cater for their final exams.

However, school Principal Mr Joseph Makau said the students were afraid of internal exams which they did not want to sit.

Mr Makau said the exams were to start Wednesday morning, but some students who had not prepared for the exams organised the strike.

"It's unfortunate that hard-working students were to sit for exams, but others who had not prepared for the exam went on the strike on Wednesday night at around 11pm," said Mr Makau.

He said the students also pulled down the school gate and pelted some window panes with stones.

Police officers later arrived at the scene and contained the situation.
