Republican candidate secures commanding lead in the US presidential poll against Vice President Kamala Harris.

Republican Party candidate Donald Trump appears poised for stunning victory by the Wednesday morning (US time) vote tally.

By midnight, The former president had dug ahead with the ongoing vote count giving him a staggering lead ahead of Democratic Party candidate Kamala Harris.

Mr Trump held a campaign watch at Palm Beach from where he claimed victory as the vote score jumped past 257 percent mark against Harris' 224.

Crossing 270 percentage score would automatically give him official victory.

With projections now at 267 for Trump and Harris at 224, the former president is on the verge to victory.

He was hounded out of the Oval office by Joe Biden after a solitary term in office as President.

There is already reported jubilation among Trump supporters ahead of the final declaration of the vote result.

"We are going to help our country heal," the Republican former president was quoted saying.

"It's a political victory that our country has never seen before," he went on.

The US, he said, has given him an unprecedented and powerful mandate.

Trump, appeared poised to win after sweeping the presumed battleground states of Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Georgia and holding leads in the other four (4), according to Edison Research.

Harris is still holding breath and has not spoken to her supporters

She is holding vigil at her alma mater Howard University.

Her campaign co-chair, Cedric Richmond however said they were still holding on as the vote count went on.

“We still have votes to count," Richmond said.

At Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort, his supporters are still celebrating.

Tech tycoon Elon Musk, a Trump backer, exuded optimism.

"Game, set and match," Musk said on X, the social media network he owns.

The former president was showing strength across broad swathes of the country, improving on his 2020 performance everywhere from rural areas to urban centres.
