Kwale County is set to attract significant investment following a meeting between Governor Fatuma Achani and a delegation from the Kenya China Chamber of Commerce.

The delegation was led by Vice Chairman Aaron Sze.

The discussions centred on establishing a steel manufacturing company at Shimoni Port, a project poised to transform the region’s economic landscape.

Governor Achani emphasized Kwale's readiness for investment, stating, “As a county, we support investors because they come bearing great things to our people.”

She highlighted the potential for the facility to create local jobs and stimulate further economic activities.

The establishment of the company will open up Kwale in investment matters and create a wider market overseas.

Governor Achani underlined the strategic importance of the project for both local and international markets.

Mr Pius Rotich from the Kenya Investment Authority provided insight into the collaborative investment efforts stemming from discussions between the Presidents of Kenya and China.

"This partnership is crucial for boosting local economies and fostering sustainable development," Mr Rotich said, affirming the government's commitment to facilitating such investments.

Infrastructure improvements were also a key topic during the meeting.

Governor Achani pointed out the enhanced accessibility of Kwale through the Dongo Kundu bypass and the Samburu-Kwale Road, reducing reliance on the Likoni ferry.

"These developments will ease transportation for both investors and tourists," she explained.

Additionally, the expansion of Diani Airport was discussed as a catalyst for increased business and tourism.

"With more planes able to land, we are creating opportunities for both business and tourism," Ms Achani noted, emphasizing the region’s attractions.

The meeting was attended by several county officials, including Deputy Governor Chirema Kombo, and County Secretary Sylvia Chidodo.

CECM for Tourism Michael Mutua said this investment will not only create jobs, but will also enhance the tourism experience for the residents.

Aaron Sze reiterated the delegation's commitment to investing in Kwale, stating, “We see great potential here, and we are excited to contribute to the county's development.”

His comments reflect a growing international interest in Kwale’s economic prospects.

"Together, we can create a vibrant economy that benefits all residents. Our doors are open for collaboration and growth," Governor Achani said.

As Kwale County embraces this investment opportunity, there is cautious optimism among locals regarding the potential positive changes the steel manufacturing project could bring.
