Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has directed the Department of Public Service to initiate a skills audit process for the county staff in order to enhance service delivery.

Speaking after overseeing the signing of performance contracts for Executive Committee Members and Chief Officers at her office on Friday last week, Ms Ndeti said her administration will fast-track the promotions of county staff who had stagnated in the same job group for many years.

"Part of the performance contracting is to ensure that staff who have stagnated for many years move upwards. All departments must undertake a skills audit for staff to ensure they are placed in their areas of competency for maximum output," Governor Ndeti said.

Noting that the county was doing well at Own Source Revenue generation, the governor said part of the revenue will be ring fenced to finance promotions and staff welfare.

Ms Ndeti challenged the chief officers to devote immense energy towards serving the residents and their respective staff as they do in pursuing procurement assignments.

"It is not going to be business as usual. We have to deliver for the people of Machakos County,” the county boss said.

She said the signing performance contracts was aimed at realising the development objectives as a county through improvement of service delivery for the residents of the county.

Ms Ndeti said the various targets are meant to ensure that those with various responsibilities deliver.

"We want to improve performance of public officers which should translate into better services to our people in order to ensure our people are able to meet their basic needs," she added.
