Residents of Mukurweini in Nyeri County have received a major boost in water accessibility following the successful completion of the Matuto Primary School Borehole Project by the Tana Water Works Development Agency (TWWDA).

The project, officially commissioned by former Cabinet Secretary for Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation, Zachariah Mwangi Njeru, is set to benefit both the school and the surrounding community.

Strategically drilled within Matuto Primary School, the borehole provides a reliable source of clean water, alleviating the region’s persistent water scarcity challenges.

The project is expected to enhance hygiene standards and reduce the prevalence of water-borne diseases among students and local residents.

Beyond health benefits, the borehole is also transforming the local economy.

Farmers now have access to a steady water supply for irrigation, leading to increased agricultural productivity.

This, in turn, has boosted local markets and spurred economic growth, further uplifting the community.

The success of the Matuto Primary School Borehole Project underscores TWWDA’s commitment to improving water infrastructure in underserved areas.

By prioritising community-centred initiatives, the agency continues to play a crucial role in promoting sustainable development and enhancing the quality of life for residents in Nyeri County and beyond.

This initiative forms part of a broader strategy by TWWDA to address water scarcity issues across multiple counties.

The sustainability of such projects relies on collaborative efforts between government agencies, local communities, and other stakeholders.

As similar water supply systems are implemented, more rural areas stand to benefit, fostering both social and economic transformation.

The Matuto Primary School Borehole Project is a testament to the power of targeted infrastructure development.

With improved access to clean water, Mukurweini is witnessing a transformation—one that promises better health, stronger livelihoods, and lasting prosperity for its residents.
