The National Assembly has concluded a two-day induction workshop for the six members who were sworn into office on 2 December 2025 following the recent by-elections.

The programme was designed to equip the MPs with practical knowledge on parliamentary procedures, oversight tools and the legislative process as they settle into their new roles.

Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, who presided over their swearing-in last week, had welcomed the legislators with a pledge of full institutional support.

“On behalf of the House and on my own behalf, I extend warm congratulations to the six Members-elect for earning the confidence of their respective electorates and for the privilege of joining this August House as representatives of the people,” Speaker Wetang’ula said.

During the induction, the lawmakers were taken through the National Assembly’s accountability mechanisms, including the committee system which anchors investigations, budgeting, and oversight of public expenditure.

They also received a detailed briefing on the Budget-Making Process, revenue allocation, legislative drafting, the Standing Orders and ethical requirements expected of Members of Parliament.

Senior Parliamentary officers emphasised practical application—how new MPs should handle petitions, questions, motions, and constituency needs while balancing national priorities.

The MPs who underwent the training were:

Ahmed Maalim Hassan (Banissa)

Boyd Were Ongondo (Kasipul)

David Athman Ndakwa (Malava)

Leo Wa Muthende Njeru (Mbeere North)

Moses Okoth Omondi (Ugunja)

Also present was Magarini MP Harrison Garama Kombe, who made a comeback after recapturing his seat in the by-election.

Officials noted that first-time lawmakers often face steep learning curves, especially around parliamentary finance, reporting obligations and the legal framework guiding House business.

The workshop helps ensure seamless transition into committee work when the House resumes regular sittings.

The induction marks the final phase of onboarding for the MPs ahead of their full integration into committees and legislative duties.
