Nyaribo claims MCAs who wanted him out were bribed

The Nyamira County Boss said he remains steadfast, unbowed, and uncowed by the threats by a section of MCAs.

Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo has rubbished the flopped impeachment bid against him.

Governor Nyaribo claimed “some hired Assembly Ward Reps wanted to hound me out of office prematurely”.

However, AVDelta News did not independently verify the bribery claims.

"It is unfortunate that people could sink this low having been given small money to seek my ouster," stated Governor Nyaribo.

The County Boss said he continues to remain steadfast, unbowed, and uncowed by the threats by a section of MCAs to send him packing.

"What Nyamira people want is development and not these sideshows. We have the roadmap and we are on course to ensure our people live decently," he said during a public event.

The Governor who was elected on a UPA party ticket survived the impeachment after the MCA failed to attain the needed threshold of 23 votes.

At least 22 MCAs voted for his removal from office, while 12 fought back the removal bid by casting a nay vote.

"The threshold needed to impeach the governor stands at 22.6, which is 23 and so the governor survives," Speaker Enock Okero said.

Mr Nyaribo was being accused of gross misconduct and breach of law.

The motion for his removal came one year after a previous attempt.

The governor had in October 2023 survived an impeachment after 18 MCAs voted to reject the motion against 16 who backed the bid.

This time the impeachment motion was tabled by nominated MCA Evans Juma Matunda.
