Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga has appealed to leaders in Nyeri County to unite and rally behind Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Speaking at Githima village in Karatina, Mathira Constituency, Mr Wamatinga urged Mr Gachagua to convene all Nyeri elected leaders so as to discuss pertinent issues affecting the residents.

"As elected leaders from Nyeri County, we are very much united and fully support the current government led by President William Ruto and our Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. We are fully committed to ensure that the Kenya Kwanza administration succeeds," Mr Wamatinga said.

"All our elected leaders are very much united, and we don't want anyone to portray us as divided. What we are doing is simply supporting the government of the day. We are not fighting the Deputy President, but we are simply telling him to convene a meeting among us as Nyeri elected leaders," the outspoken Senator added.

Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi echoed Mr Wamatinga's sentiments, saying that the meeting should be hurriedly convened so as to iron out issues affecting the county.

"I don't want to be told again that I was given any seat by those who call themselves political giants. I want to focus on working for the people of Mathira as at now. In 2027, I will seek for votes," Mr Wamumbi said.

The first-time lawmaker clinched the seat in 2022 after succeeding Mr Gachagua.

Mr Gachagua vied for the country's top political seat jointly with President Ruto during the 2022 General Election.
