Despite attaining a D- (Minus) Grade in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE 2024) examinations, outspoken Kipkenyo Ward MCA David Kimeli Leting celebrated the achievement with the area residents.

Mr Letting who threw a party for residents at his Kipkenyo home said he was expecting an E grade and is satisfied with the results noting that it will go a long way in his contribution in the county assembly.

He revealed he could not attend school at his early age due to poverty.

His constituents were in jubilation as they termed him as a hardworking MCA.

Benjamin Lagat, a resident lauded Mr Leting for his determination to succeed in life against all odds.

"We have known him for his leadership skills for a long time. We knew he had not gone to school when we elected him as our MCA," said Mr Lagat who was circumcised with Mr Leting.

"He has shown us a very good example that nomatter your age you still go back to school. We will follow his footsteps," added Mr Lagat.

Mr Leting said he is proud of the grade he scored since the exam was very hard.

"I had actually expected to score an E but God enabled me to score what I got. I'm very proud of my performance," said Mr Leting.

He sat for his KCPE examination four years ago and scored 150 marks and registered as a KCSE candidate.

" I used to pity myself alot because I didn't have any certificate. I thank the people of Kipkenyo Ward for having confidence in me despite my lack of education,"said Mr Leting.

He said that his lack of formal education was a big challenge to him at the County Assembly since many issues are conducted in English.

"Atleast for now I've understood a little bit of English and I promise to represent the people of Kipkenyo Ward who had the trust in me well. Despite my humble education I've tried to assist the people in each way," said Mr Leting.

He said his focus now is to advance his education to a Diploma level in the next two years, adding that his dream course is to study political science.

His results consist of 4 Es in Mathematics, Geography, Chemistry, and English and two D minus in Kiswahili and Christian Religious Education.

His best-performing subject was Biology in which he scored a surprising C minus.

In 2020, Mr Leting, who dropped out of nursery school in 1970, sat for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education and scored 150 marks out of 500.

His results inspired him to take his education further, leading to the momentous results that he now believes have given him job security.

According to Letting, people used to mock him due to lack of a formal education.

"There was a time they said all MCAs need to have a KCSE Certificate to qualify to be an MCA. Right now there is nothing they can tell me,” said Mr Leting.
