President Ruto's affordable housing project taking shape in Nyeri

President William Ruto administration’s Affordable Housing Project (AHP) is taking shape at Ruring’u estate in Nyeri Town constituency.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, clerk of works Wycliffe Wanyari said the Sh1.45 billion project will be complete by February 6, 2026.
Mr Wanyari said the 478-unit project will have play areas, open community spaces, green corridors, and ample parking slots for residents.
“Currently, the works are 6 percent and we anticipate to complete it by February 6, 2026. The project will take one and a half years and will cost Sh1.45 billion. All blocks comprise 478 units,” Mr Wanyari said while inspecting the construction works.
“The project includes market units, social units and AHP units. It will also host schools and commercial blocks,” he added.
Mr Wanyari said the project has so far created employment of 200 locals and that all the materials required for construction are sourced locally in Nyeri.
In February 2024, President Ruto laid the foundation for the construction of an Affordable Housing Project at Blue Valley in Nyeri Town which will comprise of 320 housing units.
In the 2023-24 fiscal year, the government allocated Sh35.2 billion towards the Housing programme.
The government has also mobilised resources to support the construction of affordable housing units and social housing units.
The Head of State targets to construct 200,000 affordable housing units annually which will create between 600,000 and one(1) million jobs each year.
AHP is an initiative by the government, as one of the pillars under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (Beta), to ensure that low and middle-income households have access to decent and affordable housing units.
